Obituary

Jeremiah Michael Lester, 42, of New Castle, VA passed away on August 5, 2020.

Jeremiah was born on October 12, 1977 in Roanoke, VA and enjoyed living in the Blue Ridge Mountains his entire life. Jeremiah kept busy by working on cars, a hobby he loved and was good at. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He spent many nights quietly reading. He was often found assisting family and friends with projects around their home; always eager to help. His generous heart shone through by his acts of service to others and the giving of his time. There was a softness possessed by Jeremiah that was reserved for the most vulnerable populations. Jeremiah loved animals and found comfort in caring for them. He was kind and patient with the elderly intent on making sure they felt needed and loved.
Jeremiah is greatly missed by those who love him. Holiday dinners will never be the same without his smiling face at the end of the table enjoying a home-cooked meal and a large glass of sweet tea. Jeremiah was a loving and compassionate person. He never met a stranger and always made people feel at ease with his laughter. His family will continue to share stories and laugh at jokes once told by Jeremiah knowing his good-natured spirit will live on through those moments.

Jeremiah is survived by his mother, Linda Simmons (Roger); father, Michael Lester (Kathy); son, Andrew Lester; sister, Emily McConnell (Jim); nieces, Brighton, Catherine, and Quinn McConnell; as well as his step-sisters, Holly and Kelly Brickey; also left to cherish his memory is a special friend, Martha Surface, along with many aunts, uncles, and dear friends.

A private graveside service will be held on Monday, August 10, 2020. lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made in memory of Jeremiah to the Roanoke Rescue Mission.

I am very sorry for your family's loss. I knew "Jeremy" as a mechanic, like my late husband-he was so helpful to the ones he did car repairs for in keeping them going. He was a good and sensitive man. May God bless your family and may Jeremiah rest in peace, comfort and love.-Melissa Smith

Jeremy was my best friend. I met him through Kim a few years ago. He helped me in so many ways. He assisted me in all ways of my life.
I enjoyed our time together. I will miss you and treasure our memories
Sincerely,
Martha W. Surface

I was blessed to know Jeremiah because his dad, Mike, is my brother-in-law. Jeremiah quickly became "family" to me, but he also became a dear and special friend. He was the kind of person that made you feel comfortable and at ease. He had a sweet and kind spirit and a special and endearing sense of humor.

Jeremiah was always willing to lend a helping hand. Whether it was fixing your car, lawnmower, cleaning out a basement, laying flooring, or cutting wood, he was always willing to help expecting nothing in return.

One of the sweetest attributes Jeremiah possessed was his kindness for the elderly. He referred to my mother as "Granny" and at all our family gatherings he sought her out to just sit and talk with her and make her feel important. Sadly, she passed away this past March, but I will treasure the memory of how she loved Jeremiah and spoke so often of how good he was to her.

Our family will now have two empty chairs at our table, but we will have hearts overflowing with precious and priceless memories. My deepest sympathy goes out to Mike and to Emily as well.

I've known Jeremiah since he was in elementary school. He always had a smile on his face. Years later got to see and talk to him and get a hug when he came to Crossroads Church with his dad and Kathy. Go rest high on that mountain...
