Obituary for Elsie Virginia Miller (Dudding)

Elsie Virginia Miller, 88, of Salem, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 1, 2014.

She was born in Botetourt County, a daughter of the late Raymond and Janie Dudding and had been a West Salem resident for most of her life. She spent many years working in the dental field and subsequently retired as a nurse’s aide from Catawba Hospital following over 17 years of service. Elsie was an avid Baltimore Orioles fan, attending many games in years past, and never missing one broadcast on the radio. She was a long time member of Locust Grove United Methodist Church and loved cats.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, A.L. “Jimmy” Miller who died in 2005, two brothers, Junior and Jack Dudding, and a sister, Elva “Pucky” Looney.

She is survived by her son, Bobby Miller and his wife Linda; two grandchildren, Chris Miller and Andy Miller; five great-grandchildren, Bryce, Madelene, Nathan, Ramsey and Emma Miller; five sisters, Kathleen Gray, Judy Johnson and husband Eddie, Eunice Barnes and husband Jay, Fay Kingery and husband Wayne, and Ruth Dillon and husband Jerry; two brothers, Robert Dudding and wife Vera, and Pete Dudding; brother-in-law, Frank Washbush, a sister-in-law, Lorraine “Sis” Helsher, and her friends at Richfield, especially David Smith, and her special friend J.S.Meador.

Funeral services will be held at 11AM, Friday, September 5, 2014 at the Chapel of John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home, Salem. Pastor Ben Lockhart, Jr. will officiate. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 4 to 7PM, Thursday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Roanoke Valley SPCA, 1340 Baldwin Ave. NE Roanoke, VA 24012.
