Frank Jackson "Peanut"  Hammersley Jr.
Frank “Peanut” Hammersley, Jr., 89, of Salem, passed away Sunday, September 25, 2016.

He was born in Lynchburg, a son of the late Frank and Elizabeth Hammersley and had been a Salem area resident for most of his life. Frank proudly served his country during WWII in the United States Navy. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lois Hammersley; a sister, Jenny Shedlock, and a brother, Earnest Hammersley.

He is survived by a sister, Maxine Jones; four children, Rosie Bland and husband Johnny, Charlie Hammersley and wife Diane, Debbie Jones and husband Junior, and Susie Cook and husband Earl; a step-son, Kenny Linkous and wife Becky; grandchildren, Lisa Canaday, Sherry Brown, Kevin Lambert, Lesley Owen, Charlie Hammersley, Jr., Chris and Jason Dudding, Travis Jones, Shannon, Kevin and Jessica Cook, and Jenny Linkous; eleven great-grandchildren, and, the mother of his children, Harriett Hammersley Duke.

The family would like to express special thanks to Doctor H at the VA Medical Center for the great care he gave our Dad.

Funeral services will be held at 2 PM, Thursday, September 29, 2016 at the chapel of John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home, Salem. Rev. Ben Lockhart will officiate. Entombment at Sherwood Memorial Park will be private. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM, Wednesday at the funeral home.
