Obituary for Kenneth Shawn "Ken" Jones
Kenneth (Ken) Shawn Jones, 53, of Blue Ridge, passed away on Thursday, August 18, 2016, ending his struggle with cancer.
He was preceded in death by his father, Kenneth Gene Jones of Salem.
Ken was a graduate of Salem High School, Virginia Western Community College, and Cardinal Police Academy, and also attended Roanoke College.
He worked for Roanoke College for 8 years, City of Salem Police Department for 13 years, John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home for 5 years, and Averitt Trucking for 8 years.
Ken is survived by his daughters, Taylor Jones (15) of Rocky Mount and her mother, Sharon Jones, and Peyton Jones (7) of Salem and her mother, Marlena Henderson; mother, Sandra Jones of Salem; sister, Laura Fizer and husband, Darel, of Hardy; and nephew, Dusty Fizer and wife, Audrey, of Salem.
Special thanks to cousins, Tony Adams, Ed and Holly Grimm, and numerous family members and friends for your love and support during his illness.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, August 21, 2016, at the John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home in Salem. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, August 22, 2016, in the funeral home’s chapel with Pastor David Rorer officiating. Burial will immediately follow at Sherwood Memorial Park.
