Ruby Stump  Moore (Stump)
Ruby A. (Stump) Moore, age 89, of Salem, Virginia passed away on Saturday, May 9, 2015. She was born September 5, 1925 in Salem, Virginia to the late John Melvin and Grace Allen Quick Stump. She married Franklin Carroll Moore in October 1952 in Fort Mill, South Carolina.

She worked at Moore Milling Company, Rowe Furniture and then the family business, Salem Hammermill; and ended her career caring for preschool children at the First United Methodist Church for 21 years, in addition to tending the books, organizing the Shoe Fund and serving on the Board of Trustees.

Loving mother of two sons Richard (Rosemary Saul) and Gary (Christine Wallace); one daughter, Anne, all of Salem; three granddaughters, Lindsey (Linz) Elizabeth, Jessica Carroll, and Casey Frances; one brother, James “Piney” (Joan) Stump of Salem; special friends, Rebecca C. Brown, Sharan Hall, Mary Dywan and loving caregiver, Trish Shepherd. She was preceded in death by her husband, Franklin Carroll; and son, Thomas.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, May 13, 2015 from 6 until 8 p.m. at John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home in Salem. Interment will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 14, 2015 at Sherwood Memorial Park in Salem, followed by a service to honor Ruby’s life at 11 a.m, at First United Methodist Church, 125 W. Main Street in Salem, with Pastor Bobby Pickle officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice. Arrangements by John M. Oakey and Son, Salem, 540-389-5441.
