Sherman Eugene  Palmer (Palmer)
Sherman Eugene Palmer (Shermie), 74, of Elliston, went home to be with his parents and family on Saturday, January 3, 2015. He was born on December 24, 1940 in Glenvar, Va. to the late Henry David Palmer and Rinda Yopp Palmer. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by four older brothers and four older sisters.
Sherman was employed with the Roanoke County school system for 26 years prior to retiring.
His favorite hobby was hunting with his best friends Roger Bishop and Sherman Womack and thoroughly loved carpentry work. He was certainly an excellent carpenter.
Above all, Sherman will be remembered, by those who knew him most, as a loving husband and friend to many!
Family remaining to cherish his memory includes his wife of 54 wonderful years, Margaret (Peggy Ann) Stuart Palmer; two sisters, Helen and Hazel; mother-in-law, Jessie Stuart; sister in law, Nellie Maxey and Husband, James; brothers-in-law, Thomas J. Stuart and wife, Barbara and Darrel Stuart and wife, Kim; a special nephew, Reggy Stuart and his wife, Stephanie; great niece, Anastasia Stuart; special friends and adoptive family members, Roger Bishop,Ellen Poff and her children, Noah and Tabby Poff .
Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
The family will receive friends on Monday, January 5, 2015 from 6 until 8:30 p.m. at John M. Oakey and Son Funeral Home in Salem. Funeral services to honor Sherman’s life will be conducted on Tuesday, January 6, 2015 at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. Interment will follow in Galilee Church Cemetery in Elliston.
