The Introduction
Many people may not know that it was I who introduced Joe to my mother. We were working in the shipping department at Halmode Apparel in Roanoke, VA. He was divorced and so was my mother. Little did I know that the introduction would lead to a 40 year marriage that ended in February 2012 with the passing of my mother, Mildred Cotton. They really loved each other and stayed together until death. In spite of all the many children, biological and shared, they were best friends. I have been thinking about many times over the 40 years that Joe was a part of my life. I remember singing with him, crying with him, debating him on politics in particular and of course the laughter. He was a hard working man who gave more than he ever received in return. He had flaws as we all do, but his virtues were solid. He was one of the most genuine men I have ever known. He was kind, loving, and generous. I loved him and will miss him but the memories we shared will never leave my heart. You are with her now, again, Joe. You walked through your last storm and are now singing with the angels, Joe.
