Obituary for Jesse Gray Bradley Jr.

Jesse Gray Bradley, Jr., 94, of Salem, died on Thursday, May 18, 2017.

He was born in Roanoke County to the late Jesse G. and Stella Payne Bradley on Friday, August 4, 1922.

Mr. Bradley was a decorated World War II Navy veteran with service on the U.S.S. Yorktown CV-10 during operations in the Philippines, Japan, the China Sea, and multiple Pacific islands. He returned to Salem and began a career that included Comas Cigarette Machine Company, Yale & Towne, Mechanical Development Company, and Medeco Security Locks.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Lillian Kirby Bradley.

His surviving family includes his children, David Barry Bradley and wife, Kirsten, of Richmond, Steven Kirby Bradley and wife, Casey Morehouse, of Staunton, and Craig James Bradley and wife, Debbie, of Salem; grandchildren, Carrington Benjamin Bradley and wife, Kathy, of San Jose, Calif., Alexandra Bradley Keller and husband, Bradford, of Falls Church, Carroll Morehouse Bradley of Staunton, and Robert Jefferson Bradley of Staunton; and great-grandchildren, Sinclaire and Avery Bradley, and Lucy and Clare Keller. He is also survived by sister-in-law, Wanda Kirby Walrond; and brothers-in-law, Roscoe D. Kirby and William K. Kirby.

The family will receive friends beginning at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, May 22, 2017, at First Christian Church in Salem. The funeral service will then begin at 11 a.m. with The Rev. Dan Netting officiating. Interment with military honors will immediately follow at Sherwood Memorial Park.
