Obituary for Bobby Lee Horne

Bobby Lee Horne
Bobby Lee Horne, 86, of Salem, was dispatched home on Saturday, August 6, 2016, ceasing a worldly struggle with a failing body. He and his love now dance thru eternity.
He was born in Roanoke, a son of the late Burrell David and Lois Hairfield Horne. He started work early and matured quickly. A long term resident of the area, he attended local schools before graduating from Leakesville High School in North Carolina in 1949. He married his high school sweetheart, Jacqueline Lee Frazier, and served in the U.S.Navy as a member of the “Seabees”. Upon his discharge, Bob returned to the Salem area and began a lifetime career in the trucking industry before retiring in the 1990’s.
Bob was preceded in death by his loving wife Jacqueline Lee, two sons, Ronald Wayne and Robert Lee Horne, his daughter, Cynthia Lee Douglas, and a sister, Geraldine Anne Goodwin.
He is survived by his son Creed David Horne; two brothers, Richard Wayne and George Ronald Horne; sister, Janet Reed, many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, in-laws, and nieces and nephews who will miss Uncle Bob’s gruff but loving manner.
He was a sports fan, a gardener, lover of dogs, consummate angler and a true gentleman. Offerings may be made to his memory by taking someone fishing.
Funeral services will be held at 2PM, Wednesday, August 10, 2016 at the Chapel of John M. Oakey & Son, Salem. Burial will follow at Sherwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM, Tuesday at the funeral home. An online guest book is available for family and friends by visiting www.johnmoakey.com.
