Sarah L. “Tinkie” Williams, 71, of Salem, passed away after a long battle with ALS on Wednesday, April 27, 2016.

She served in both the U.S. Air Force and U.S. Naval Reserve, and worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse for many years. In her spare time, she enjoyed her dogs, gardening, traveling, the beach, and spending time with her family.

Preceding her in death was her father, Russell Bandy.

Her surviving family includes her mother, Lorraine Hampton; husband, Donald T. Williams; children, Anthony Russell Chapman and wife, Christine, and Christopher Allen Chapman; sisters, Barbara Frazer and Beverly Rice; grandchildren, Ariell, Sevana, Kwynne, Dacoda, and Race Chapman; niece, Brooke Frazer and husband, Andrew; and her beloved airedales, Sadie and Mattie.

The family extends special thanks to Home Based Care with the Salem VA Medical Center, and Medi Home Health and Hospice for their compassionate care.

A period of visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. on Friday, April 29, 2016, at the John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home in Salem. The funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 30, 2016, in the funeral home’s chapel with Chaplain Gray Smith officiating. Interment with military funeral honors will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens in Roanoke.

In lieu of flowers, charitable contributions may be made in Sarah’s name to the ALS Association Gift Processing Center at PO Box 6051 in Albert Lea, Minn. 56007. Online condolences may be expressed at www.johnmoakey.com.
