Roger Edwin  Sullivan Dds
Roger Edwin Sullivan, 91, of Salem and Smith Mountain Lake, passed away on Friday, April 8, 2016.

He was born in Chicago, Ill. the son of the late Edwin and Harriet Sullivan and had been an area resident for over 34 years.

A dentist for over 40 years, he graduated from Loyola University of Chicago Dental School and retired (December 1991) as Chief of the Dental Service at the Salem VA Medical Center at the end of a 33 year career which included service at Martinsburg, W.Va., North Chicago, Ill., and Batavia, N.Y.
A member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Salem, and Resurrection Catholic Church in Moneta, VA,
Roger was very active in his parishes and communities, and a life member of The Knights of Columbus. He was a youth baseball and basketball coach and referee; President of the Notre Dame High School Sports Boosters in Batavia, N.Y. ; instructor/mentor of dental students, hygienists, and assistants at the Salem VA Hospital.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by loving wife, Mary Ann Sullivan; his sister, Elaine M. Cugier; and daughter-in-law Susan G. Devey.

A loving and caring husband, father, and grandfather, he is survived by four sons, Dr. Joseph M. Sullivan, Stephen G. Sullivan (Kathie), Paul T. Sullivan (Mary Pat), and John A. Sullivan; four daughters, Eileen M. Sullivan, Marybeth Sullivan Bothmann (Gary), Patricia M. Sullivan, and Catherine Sullivan Nelson (Gary); 15 grandchildren, Colin, Matthew, Alexandra, Kurt, Michael, Thomas, Jared, Emily, Jennifer, Timothy, Gregory, Adam, Andrew, Samuel, and Ryan; and three great-grandchildren, Evan, Grady, and Lilah.

A mass of the resurrection will be celebrated at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, April 12, 2016 with a visitation for friends from 5 to 6 p.m at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, 314 Turner Road, Salem, VA 24153. The Rev. Msgr. Joseph Lehman will officiate. The burial Rite of Committal will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 13, 2016 at Resurrection Catholic Church Cemetery, Rt. 122 Moneta, VA 24121.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, April 11, 2016 at John M. Oakey and Son Funeral Home, Salem. An online guest book is available for family and friends at www.johnmoakey.com.
