James Wesley  Lawrence
James Wesley Lawrence, 84, of Roanoke, VA was called home to be with his Lord and Savior on March 26, 2016. He was born January 10, 1932 in Amigo, WV son of the late Ryan M. Sr. & Ruby Lawrence. He was preceded in death by his brother, Frank A. Lawrence.

Mr. Lawrence grew up in Rock, WV and graduated from Matoaka High School. He married his high school sweetheart, Alene Cole on Aug. 18, 1951. He served in the U.S. Army from August 25, 1952 until November 24, 1955. Stationed in Austria, he rose to the rank of Sergeant. After he finished active duty, he served in the Army Reserve. Upon leaving the Army, he graduated from Coyne Electrical School in Chicago. After graduation, he began a distinguished career that spanned over 30 years of service with the Virginian Railway/Norfolk & Western Railway/Norfolk Southern Railroad. James and his wife Alene were charter members of the Salem Church of God. He also, faithfully, served for many years as a trustee for the Virginia State Church of God. He was a Godly man of great integrity and will be remembered fondly as a devoted husband and loving father/grandfather.

James is survived by loving wife, Alene Cole Lawrence; children,
James David Lawrence & wife Sally Brewer Lawrence, Steven Wesley Lawrence & wife Madge E. Lawrence, Mark Stuart Lawrence & wife Lauren L. Lawrence, and Cathy Lynn Lawrence; siblings, Ryan M. Lawrence, Jr. & wife Dollie Lawrence, Arlie E. Lawrence & wife Pat Lawrence and Rita M. Price & husband James Price; grandchildren, James S. Lawrence & Katie Lawrence, Cole S. Lawrence & Lindsey Lawrence, Joshua R. Lawrence and Ivey E. Lawrence; Beloved Dog: Susy Q.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, March 29, 2016 from 6-8 p.m at John M. Oakey and Son, Salem. Funeral services will be at the chapel of John M. Oakey and Son on Wednesday, March 30, 2016 at 2 p.m. with Pastor Jason Wilbourne and Rev. Mark Cary. Interment will follow at Sherwood Memorial Park.

The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Paul A. Levine, Dr. Elizabeth Gaughan & Lisa Palumbo RN of UVA Cancer Center, Dr. Vashist Nobbee of Lewis Gale Physicians and Good Samaritan Hospice.
