Miriam Gene  Jenkins (Thompson)
Miriam Gene Thompson Jenkins, Roanoke, VA, formerly of Salem, VA and Joppa, MD, left her earthly home to be with the Lord on February 21, 2015.
The daughter of Roy and Elizabeth Thompson, Miriam was born on October 28, 1919 in Minersville, PA and was the wife of the late George S. Jenkins, Sr. for 72 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her son Barry Lee Jenkins, her brother Jack Thompson and sister Ethel Yuravage. She is survived by three children, G. Scott Jenkins, Jr. and wife Carol, Xenia, OH; Sandra Jenkins Gibson and husband David, Roanoke, VA; and Gary Lee Jenkins, Whiting, NJ. She is also survived by her sister Helen Thompson, Elizabethtown, PA and brother William Thompson, Middletown, PA; six grandchildren: Angela (Gabi) Gibson; James Jenkins; Joy Breuninger; Rachael Meyer; Joshua Meyer; Andrew Meyer; and seven great-grandchildren: William Breuninger; Sarah Breuninger; Adam Jenkins; Matt Jenkins; Emma Jenkins; Ariel Liberty; and Bayne Meyer.
Miriam was a life member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was a member of O.E.S. Pioneer Chapter 276, Minersville, PA which later merged with Cressona Chapter 367, Cressona, PA.
A member of Good Shepherd Presbyterian Church from 1975 until she moved to Salem in 2010, Miriam was an active church member and enjoyed volunteering to help raise funds for her church and programs for children.
Private services will be held for the family. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial gifts be sent to Good Shepherd Presbyterian Church, 622 Joppa Farm Road, Joppatowne, MD 21085.
