Yvonne Plymale Roach, 91, of Myrtle Beach, S.C., passed away peacefully on Monday, April 13, 2026, in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
She was born on Thursday, July 19, 1934, in Vinton, Va., to the late John Otey Plymale and Addie Bell Shepherd Plymale. She graduated from William Byrd High School in 1954, and married the love of her life, the late Frank Daniel ("Danny") Roach, in 1955. Together, they had two children, four granddaughters, and six great-grandchildren.
She was affectionately known as "Granny Roach" and proudly embraced her role as the "M&M Granny," delighting her great-grandchildren with bags of M&Ms at every visit. She was also an accomplished quilter, known for her remarkable ability to design intricate patterns and transform them into beautiful, finished masterpieces.
She retired from Virginia Tech in 1994, after twenty-five years of dedicated service. Following her retirement, she and Danny moved to Myrtle Beach, where they made their home.
Yvonne was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Randall Lynn Roach, in 1995; and her husband, Danny, in 1997.
She is survived by her daughter, Melissa Smith (Jay) of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; daughter-in-law, Mary Roach Anderson (Greg) of Pawleys Island, S.C.; granddaughters, Michelle Sims (Aaron) of Hoschton, Ga., Meredith Southern (Brett) of Salem, Va., Katy Fletcher (Ryan) of Myrtle Beach, S.C., and Kelly Campman of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; six great-grandchildren, Carrington, Grayson, Hudson, and McKinley Sims, and Madison and John Southern; and six great-granddogs, Lola, Sadie, Kapula, Beau, Coco, and Freya.
A celebration of Yvonne's life will be held on Friday, April 24, 2026, at the John M. Oakey & Son Chapel in Salem, Va. The period of visitation will begin at 1 p.m., and the memorial service at 2 p.m. She will be laid to rest immediately following at Sherwood Memorial Park.
