Woodie James Martin

Woodie J. Martin, 84, of Salem, passed away on Wednesday, November 11, 2015. He was preceded in death by his parents, Woodie and Beulah Martin; sister, Elizabeth McKinney; and special lady friend of 20 years, Bonnie Hinkley. Family remaining to cherish his memory includes his children and their (spouses), Debbie Saunders, (Cecil), Jay Martin, (Lori), Pam Fortner, (Terry), and Greg Martin; brother, Omer Martin, (Vivian); eight grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. The family will be receiving friends on Friday, November 13, 2015 from 5 until 8 p.m. at John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home in Salem. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, November 14, 2015 at 12 p.m. at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens in Roanoke where military rights will also be conducted. The family wishes to offer a special thank you to the caring staff of Virginia Veterans Care Center for the compassionate care given to Mr. Martin during his stay.
