Winona LaWarren (Fogle) Taylor, 89, of Salem went to be with her Lord on Tuesday, May 21, 2013. She was born on April 7, 1924 in Harrisonburg, VA to the late Warren W. and Sallie Ella Whitfield. Ms. Taylor was a longtime member of the Melrose Baptist Church and was known as a God fearing woman who knew her bible well. She was the president and leader, as known by her family, of the Granny Club of Salem, as she was a loving granny to numerous children in and outside of her family. She enjoyed crocheting, crossword puzzles, gardening and absolutely loved the trips to the beach and any form of family gathering. Above all of this, she will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Estle (Red) Alfred Taylor; son, Sherman Edward (Eddie) Taylor; two sisters, and one brother. She is survived by her son, Barry D. Taylor and wife, Angela; daughters, Constance (Connie) T. Gibson, and Stephanie T. Underwood and husband, Timmy, Belinda T. Carroll and husband, Kenny, Cynthia (Cindy) T. Sowers and husband, Todd, and Reva D. Taylor; grandsons, Elijah S. Carroll and wife Michele, Brandon Carroll and wife, Tiffany, Ryan Chitwood, Preston R. Chitwood, Christiaan A. Sowers, Clayton M. Taylor, Dylan C. Taylor, and Austin C. Sowers; granddaughters, Anita G. Dooley and husband, Allen, Melissa D. Blevins and husband, Keith, Jennifer L. Gibson, Elissa G. Anderson and husband, Rick, Robyn (Nikki) Gibson, Courtney F. Taylor, and Hannah V. Sowers; great-grandsons, Sam Dooley, Mason Blevins, Colton Chitwood, Brian Blevins, Tyler Austin, and Michael Austin; great-granddaughters, Micaela Anderson, Arianna Dooley, Noel Gibson, Temple Anderson, Jewels Anderson, and Isabelle Carroll; and long time friend and adopted son Sal Ambrosio. One brother, Jerome, and three sisters, Wanda, Faye, and Shirley also survive to cherish her memory. The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 23, 2013 from 2 until 4 and 6 until 8 p.m. at the John M. Oakey & Son funeral home in Salem. A funeral service will be conducted on Friday, May 24, 2013 at 11 a.m. at Christian Life International Church located at 1 CLI Way, Salem.
