Wilmer D. (Lou) Richards, 89, of Salem, passed away on Monday, July 29, 2013. He was born on June 6, 1924 in Salem, VA to the late William A. and Mary Hall Richards. Mr. Richards proudly served in the Army during World War II. He was an avid outdoorsman, especially enjoying hunting, playing golf and gardening. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Kathleen D. Richards; and brothers, Andrew, Sherman, Banks, and Gordon Richards. Family left to cherish his memory include his son, Greg Richards and his wife Leslie; beloved grandson, Justin Gregory; sisters-in-law, Jeanette Carter and Ruth Richards; numerous nieces and nephews; and long time friend, Ray Crotts. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, July 30, 2013 from 6 until 8 p.m. at the John M. Oakey & Son funeral home in Salem. A family Graveside Funeral Service will be conducted on Wednesday, July 31, 2013 at 11 a.m. at Sherwood Memorial Park in Salem with Chaplain Dave Vanderpool officiating.
