Wilma Roop Volpe 'Jewel' Ricker

Wilma Jewel Roop Volpe Ricker, 85 of Salem joined her Lord in heaven on Wednesday, July 11, 2012. She was born on January 4, 1927 in Salem to the late James Herman and Annie Dulaney Roop. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husbands, Michael T. Volpe and Lynn M. Ricker; One sister, Doris R. Bowers and one brother, James E. Roop. She is survived by two daughters, Gayle V. Dooley & husband Edward and Mary V. Crowder; two sons, Anthony M. Volpe and Dean A. Ricker & wife & loving daughter-in-law, Robin G. Ricker. The good Lord blessed her with three grandchildren, Ann R. Rierson, Joseph A. Crowder, and a special angel, Abigail G. Ricker. The blessings grew with two more angels; great-granddaughters, Laney F. Rierson and Ava C. Crowder. Her family thanks you Lord for our Mother and her special way of keeping us all together. The family would like to extend their sincere thanks to the staff members of Salem Health & Rehabilitation Center, & Good Samaritan Hospice for their care, concern and friendship during her stay with them. They were absolutely phenomenal. A graveside service will be held to honor Ms. Rickers life on Saturday, July 14, 2012 at 1 p.m. at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens in Roanoke. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. on Friday, July 13, 2012 at the John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home in Salem. In lieu of flowers, donations to Good Samaritan Hospice are appreciated.
