William Henry 'Bill' Yates Iii

William Henry (Bill) Yates, III, 85, of Salem, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, March 7, 2018. Bill was a proud veteran having served in the US Navy during the Korean Conflict. He later retired from the US Postal Service. Bill had also worked for Norfolk & Western Railroad as a former locomotive fireman. Preceding him in death was his wife, Darline Frances Yates. His surviving family includes his sons, Barry W. Yates and wife, Vickie, Terry A. Yates and wife, Tonda, and Jeffrey D. Yates and wife, Debbie; brother, R. Wayne Yates and wife, Valerie; granddaughters, Samantha, Kelsey, and Taylor; and special friend, Gwen Allen. The family extends sincere thanks to Good Samaritan Hospice and especially Angie Layne for the heartfelt care and compassion shown to the entire Yates family. A graveside service will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Friday, March 9, 2018, at Cedar Lawn Memorial Park in Roanoke with Rev. Brian Buckles officiating.
