William Edward Snaman, age 90 of Roanoke, passed away on Thursday, February 17, 2011. He was born on August 9, 1920 to the late E.U. Snaman and Lillian Seay Snaman. Mr. Snaman served his country in the U.S Army, and was a veteran of WWII, where he received multiple citations including, the Presidential Unit Citation, Good Conduct Medal, Philippines Liberation Ribbon with two Bronze Stars, American Theatre Service Medal, Asian Pacific Campaign Medal with six Bronze Stars, and a Victory Medal. Mr. Snaman will be remembered for his loyalty to customers while having worked in the coffee and food brokers business for 60 plus years. He was also a member of the Raleigh Court Presbyterian Church. In addition to his parents, Mr. Snaman was preceded in death by his wife, Genevieve Elizabeth Snaman. Surviving family include his sons, William E. Snaman, Jr., and JC Snaman, & wife Jasma; Brother, Richard Snaman of Delaware; Grandchildren, Austin, Emily, Michael, and Will Snaman, and a Great-Granddaughter, Emma Grace Bernardin. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, February 19, 2011 at 2 p.m., at the Evergreen Burial Park, Roanoke, with Pastor Stephen A. Parker officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. on Friday, February 18, 2011at the John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home, Salem.
