William D. Reed Jr.

William David Reed, Jr., 81, of Roanoke, passed away on Wednesday, July 6, 2011. He was born on December 20, 1929 in Roanoke and graduated from Blacksburg High School in Blacksburg. A veteran, he served in the US Air Force as a Senior Ground Radio Intercept Operator. Professionally, he worked for Paine Webber Jackson, several roller skating businesses, and the Sears Telecatalog Center. His memberships included the Amateur Radio Club as well as various roller skating groups. Preceding him in death was a brother, Donald Lee Reed; and a sister, Frances Ann Shiflett. His surviving family includes a daughter, Gina Renee Reed Johnson of Salem; sister, Barbara Jean Slater of Houston; a number of nieces and nephews; and many outstanding friends. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 23, 2011 at 2 p.m. at Calvary Baptist Church in Salem. The Rev. Roger Counts will officiate.
