William (Bill) Ramsey, born on November 13, 1929, passed away at the age of 80 on Monday, August 9, 2010. Bill was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force having served in the Korean Conflict. Professionally, he worked as a clerk for Norfolk Southern and later retired from the federal government as a physicist. He enjoyed gardening as well as attending the Westminster Presbyterian Church of Roanoke for 13 years. Preceding him in death was his first wife, Lorene Ramsey; brother, Robert Ramsey; and sisters, Kathleen Ramsey, Margaret Smith, and Beatrice Boston. His surviving family includes his second wife, Louella Dodd Ramsey; daughter, Carol Buckingham; grandchild, Lenore Ludwig; and great-grandchild, Lydia Ludwig. The family will receive friends for visitation on Tuesday, August 10, 2010 from 6 to 8 p.m. in the John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home in Salem. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, August 11, 2010 at 11 a.m. at Sherwood Memorial Park in Salem. Following the burial, a memorial service will be held at 12 Noon at the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Roanoke. Pastor John Furman will officiate. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bills name to the Westminster Presbyterian Church at 2216 Peters Creek Road in Roanoke, VA 24017 or to a charity of choice.
