William Foster "Bill" Piper, 82, of Salem, Virginia, passed away on Monday, June 9, 2025. Born in Medford, Massachusetts on December 9, 1942, to the late Lloyd Russell and Ella Lillian Peterson Piper, he is also preceded in death by his loving wife of 57 years, Vicky Cady Piper as well as maternal grandparents, Eric and Jensina Christiansen Peterson and paternal grandparents, Lloyd Foster and Emma Wilson Piper.
As a child, Bill attended St. David's School in London, England. He was very active in the Boy Scouts of America and was appointed to the Order of the Arrow; he was also a Life Scout. Bill joined the Navy, served as head electrician, achieved the rank of E6 Petty Officer, and received a letter of commendation upon his honorable discharge. Bill was very active in Kiwanis Club and served as President of Kiwanis Club, Reisterstown, Maryland and served as Lieutenant Governor for Kiwanis, Capital District. He was a lay leader in the Glyndon United Methodist Church in Glyndon, Maryland. After retirement, Bill and Vicky relocated to Salem, Va. to be closer to family. Locally, Bill was appointed Board President for the Roanoke Valley Speech and Hearing Center and served as the President of the Salem Museum and Historical Society.
Those left to cherish his memory are his sister-in-law, Cheryl Burnside and husband, Kenneth; brother-in-law, James Cady and wife, Patricia; nieces and nephews, Kenneth Burnside, Kevin Burnside and wife, Cyndi, James Cady and wife, Ghislaine, Michele Cady Cave and husband, Ron and Timothy Cady and wife, Laura as well as cousins, Betty Pace and Frederick Pace.
Services will be held privately at a later date.
