William Billy Russell Palmer, 81, of Roanoke County, my dear loving husband, went home to be with his Heavenly Father on Friday, January 20, 2017. Billy loved the Lord and served him for most of his life. He was a kind, very caring and a very godly man. He retired from Norfolk Southern Corporation where he worked for over 35 years as an electrical circuit engineer. He was a member of Life Tabernacle Church, helping to serve God in many ways. He was preceded in death by his parents, Russell T and Fanny M. Palmer, a son, Richard W. Palmer, granddaughter, Corrina N. Palmer, and a brother, Kenis L. Palmer. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Edna Journell Palmer; son, Gary Palmer; three brothers, Carl P. Palmer and wife Phyllis, Maynard L. Palmer and his friend Julie Daily, Russell T. Palmer, Jr. and wife Rhonda; a sister, Della Mae Wheeling, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation and thanks to the loving, caring and attentive staff of both Friendship South County Rehab and Pheasant Ridge Nursing Rehab Center. Funeral services will be held at 11AM, Wednesday, January 25, 2017 at the Chapel of John M. Oakey & Son, Salem. The Rev. Tino Maciel will officiate. Burial will follow at Sherwood Memorial Park.
