William Beverly (Bill) Nichols of Roanoke County, VA died on August 13, 2010 of lung cancer. He was born in Franklin County, VA on June 13, 1932 and was the son of the late Roy Lee Nichols and Virginia Johnson Robertson. He was also preceded in death by his first wife and mother of his children, Regina (Jean) R. Nichols; and his only daughter, Nancy Ann Nichols; and three siblings, James R. Nichols, Lewis Nichols and Louise Hartman. Bill was retired from Armour Foods and Lewis Gale Clinic. He was an avid gardener and fisherman, and a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church, Roanoke. Bill was a Southeast Boy and attended Belmont and Jamison Schools and Stonewall Jackson Junior High School. Survivors include his wife, Kaye Farley Nichols of Roanoke; four sons, Bruce E. Nichols (Susan) of Irmo, SC, Mark W. Nichols (Ellen) of Ironto, VA, Steven L. Nichols (Linn) of Ironto, VA and Michael W. Nichols (Genia) of Roanoke; step children, Julie Johnson of Baltimore, MD and David Johnson and wife Paula of Greensboro, NC; grandchildren, Jeremy, Molly Lynch, Chris, Emily, Katie, Quentin, and Amanda; great-grandchildren, Landon and Reagan Lynch and Mackenzie Nichols; step-grandson, Keith Hambrick and his three children; he also dearly loved his Australian Terriers, Tillie and Foster; two siblings, Lois Cannady (Ralph) of High Point, NC and Clarence Nichols of Bassett, VA. He was the second oldest of six children. Memorial services will be conducted at 11 am Monday, August 16, 2010 at Covenant Presbyterian Church with Rev. Robert Fielder and Rev. Dusty Fielder officiating. Inurnment will follow at East Hill Cemetery, Salem. The family will receive friends Sunday, August 15, 2010 from 2 to 4 pm at John M. Oakey and Son Funeral and Cremation Service, Salem. At the request of Mr. Nichols his body has been cremated. The family request that in lieu of flowers donations be made to Presbyterian Community Center, 1228 Jamison Ave. SE, Roanoke, VA 24013 or to St. Francis Service Dog Foundation, 8232 Enon Dr., Roanoke, VA 24019. The family would like to give special thanks to Good Samaritan Hospice, especially nurse Ginny Weisz and social worker Mary K, Scott and Pat Spears, RN. Also to Bills caregivers from Generation Solutions for the loving, tender care he received in his last week! They include Paula Jones, Priscilla Karnwie, Zeneta Wade and many others.
