William Douglas Mahone, 43, of Salem and originally of Richmond, passed away on Thursday, May 14, 2015. He enjoyed the art of cooking, making children smile, and rescuing animals in need. His greatest passion, however, was capturing special moments with his photographic skills within a marriage ceremony, a lightening storm, or a field of flowers. Preceding him in death were his grandparents, Bernard, Jr. and Cecelia Mahone and Ray and Pearl Dodson; and mother, Rebecca Fay Mahone. His surviving family includes his father, Frederick Mahone; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and special friends. His family extends a sincere thanks to the immediate friends who express sympathy to his father. A period of visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, May 19, 2015 in the John M. Oakey & Son Chapel in Salem. A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, May 20, 2015, also in the chapel. Charitable contributions may be made to the Angels of Assisi Veterinary Clinic at 415 Campbell Ave, SW in Roanoke, VA 24016. Online condolences may be expressed at www.johnmoakey.com.First Visitation
