Willard Lee Craighead, known to everyone as "Mulie," passed away peacefully on January 10, 2026, leaving behind a life defined by faith, hard work, and quiet kindness. To those who loved him most, he was also Papa, Sir Pops, and Sir, names that reflected the deep affection and respect he earned throughout his life.

Born on November 29, 1949, Mulie lived a life rooted in dedication to his family, his work, his faith in God, and the simple joys that brought him peace. He was never one to move at a fast pace, choosing instead to take life as it came, steady and unhurried, finding purpose in doing things the right way rather than the quick way. Over the years, he worked at Gardner Denver, GE, and Yokohama, but it was at Blue Ridge Diesel where he truly found his professional home. There, coworkers became family, and Mulie was known not only for his strong work ethic, but for his loyalty, humor, and steady presence.

Outside of work, Mulie found joy in hands-on pursuits and time spent with those he loved. He cherished shooting with his cousins, carefully loading bullets, fishing quiet waters, tying flies, gardening, canning, Marvel movies, and eating good food. One of his greatest joys was golfing with his daughter, Elizabeth. This is the time they shared side by side that meant more to him than any scorecard. These hobbies reflected who he was. Patient, thoughtful, and deeply connected to the land, the work of his hands, and the people around him.

Mulie was funny in his own way, stubborn when it mattered, a bit ornery, and unfailingly hardworking. He was always the kind of thinker who would say, "Hey guys, watch this and see what happens." His faith in God was unwavering and guided the way he lived each day. Those who knew him best will remember him as the kindest and gentlest soul, someone who would do anything for anyone without hesitation or expectation of return.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Virginia Craighead; his brother, Nathan Craighead; his beloved wife, Lucia Craighead; and many cherished fur babies who held a special place in his heart.

He is survived by his devoted daughter, Elizabeth, and son-in-law, Casey; his little hound dog, Katie Grace; his African Grey Parrot, Squeaky; and his beloved grand-dogs, Alice and Hazel Grace. Mulie is also lovingly remembered by countless "favorite cousins," nephews, friends, neighbors, and especially his "Biscuits, Bullets, and Bull" shooting boys, who adored him for all he was.

A graveside service to celebrate his life will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, at Sherwood Memorial Park in Salem, Va., with Rev. Bobby Pickle officiating.

The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to his countless doctors, CenterWell Home Health, Lewis Gale Hospital, Friendship South Rehab Center, and Good Samaritan: Sheila S. Strauss Hospice House for their compassionate care, dedication, and kindness shown to Mulie during his final journey. Their support meant more than words can express.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mulie's memory to Brood Basset Hound Rescue (https://brood-va.org/) or Good Samaritan: Sheila S. Strauss Hospice House (https://goodsam.care/strauss-hospice-house).
