Wesley R. Thompson, 70, of Roanoke County, passed away on Friday, March 4, 2011. Born in Gadsden, Alabama, he was the son of the late F. M. and Annie Mae Thompson. He was an alumnus of Jacksonville State University and the University of Virginia. For over 30 years, he worked as a teacher and guidance counselor at Cave Spring, Northside, and William Fleming High Schools. He will be remembered for his kindness and courage, and for his love of family, history, politics, and music. He was preceded in death by his wife of 40 years, Jean Thompson. His surviving family includes his wife, Maria Thompson; son, Brian Thompson and wife, Michele; and grandchildren, Quinn Thompson and Nicholas Thompson. A period of visitation will be held on Monday, March 7, 2011 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home in Salem. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, March 8, 2011 at 1 p.m. at Our Lady of Nazareth Church in Roanoke. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to your favorite charity.
