Walter Lee Harrell, 66, of Salem, passed away on Monday, December 23, 2013. He was born on July 21, 1947 in Roanoke to the late Walter Monroe and Margaret Wilbourne Harrell. Walter loved old tractors and his restored GTO. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and piddling on the farm. He loved taking trips to Lake Moomaw with his wife every year, and going on trips out west with his brother Lynwood. Family left to cherish Walters memory include his loving wife of 47 years, Loretta Harrell; daughter, Luvada Westmoreland and husband Chris, and their son Hunter; daughter, Melinda Bowers and husband Roger, and their children Paige and Blake; brothers, Lynwood Harrell and wife Carol, and Henry Harrell and wife Kathy; special friend, Bobby Foster; sister-in-law, Marlene Laprade and husband Willie; and nephews, Adam Harrell, Ray Harrell, and Josh Hale. The family also wishes to offer special thanks to Jeanne Bowers and husband Rod for all their loving help. The family will receive friends on Thursday, December 26, 2013 from 5 until 7 p.m. at the John M. Oakey & Son funeral home in Salem. Funeral services will follow at 7 p.m. with Pastor Gary Kingery officiating. A private graveside service for family and close friends will take place on Friday, December 27, 2013 at 11 a.m. at Foster Cemetery in Salem.
