Born March 9, 1937, Walter Bernard Gordon, of Salem and formerly of Cincinnati, OH, went to be with the Lord on May 7th, 2024. Those who have preceded him in death include his parents, Richard and Elizabeth Gordon. Beginning in the early 1960s, Walter spent a lifetime as a teacher and guidance counselor in the Cincinnati Public School System. Likewise, he spent many of those years coaching sports, especially baseball which he did in some capacity for nearly 30 years. Walter spent time at Woodward High School, Hughes High School, Aiken High School, Walnut Hills High School, Mercy High School, Dater High School as well as stints at Northern Kentucky University, Riverside Academy, Twin Towers Nursing Home Day Program, and East Indiana Treatment Center. Essentially, Walter spent his lifetime keeping kids and adults on track and positioned for success. Some of his accomplishments include having written the Aiken High School Guidance Plan when he was there, as well as facilitating and hosting countless collegiate fairs where students could visit with college representatives. Walter coached football, baseball, basketball, and started a youth wrestling program at St. Aloysius Gonzaga Elementary. Walter also led a remarkably successful travel baseball program, Nuckols and Associates which culminated in a runner-up finish in the 1988 17-18 year old World Series. Walter had a number of hobbies including exercising and landscaping, including winning Westwood Civic Associations Yard of the Month. Also, Walter loved cars, especially he loved Fords including owning a vintage two door Crown Vic, a couple of late 1960s Mustangs when he was young, and he even performed as a limo driver having driven his sister in law in a Lincoln Towncar in her wedding. Walter loved traveling throughout Ohio, where he grew up in Mentor, OH. He enjoyed family trips to Port Clinton and Cedar Point, and was even known for sitting for long stretches watching the lake and roller coasters go by, and listening to Westside Steve play Jimmy Buffett covers. Walter is survived and loved by six grandchildren whom he enjoyed going to their football games, wrestling and swim meets, as well as softball and baseball games. Walter is survived by former spouse and lifetime friend Joyce Gordon, Dara (Mike) Ehrman, Kim Gordon, Eric Gordon, and grandkids Haellie, Bryce, Adam, Lauren, Eric, Aaron A memorial and Mass will occur at a later date.
