Wallace Johnson Porter, Jr., 81, of Salem, went to be with the Lord on Monday, October 29, 2012.
He was born in Roanoke, a son of the late Wallace J. Porter, Sr. and Fern Basham Porter and had been an area resident for most of his life. He served with the United States Air Force during the Korean War, stationed in New Mexico and England. An accomplished Art Director, he was employed with several area businesses through out his career and was the former owner and operator of Olde Salem Galleries. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Wallace J. Tony Porter, III, and a sister, Blondell Williams.
He is survived by his loving wife of 61years, Exie Saul Porter; a daughter, Wendy Porter; three sons, Charles Porter and his wife Elizabeth, Brian Porter and his fiance Dawn Goodrich, David Porter and his wife Allison; a sister, Fern Sissy Porter; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00PM, Saturday, November 3, 2012 at the chapel of John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home, Salem. The Rev. Jim Herron will officiate.
