Waldemar Emil Heinzelmann

Waldemar E. Heinzelmann, 76, of Shawsville, passed away Tuesday, November 4, 2014. He was born in Yonkers, New York, a son of the late Fred and Hedwig Schaub Heinzelmann and had been an area resident most of his life. He earned his BS degree at Roanoke College and received his Masters degree from Virginia Polytechnic Institute where he pursued further graduate studies in mathematical statistics. He was employed as an Operations Research Analyst with the Department of the Army for over 30 years prior to retiring, and served an additional five years as an Independent Contractor. He was a member of St. Philip Lutheran Church and was a life member of the United States Table Tennis Association. He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Ruth H. Heinzelmann; their son, Wally M. Heinzelmann, and a brother, Fred Heinzelmann and his wife Lee of New Jersey. A memorial service will be held at 2PM, Friday, November 7, 2014 at St. Philip Lutheran Church, 8115 Williamson Rd. Roanoke, VA 24019. The Revs. David C. Derrick and Kelly Bayer Derrick will officiate. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his memory to St. Philip Lutheran Church, or to the Shawesville Rescue Squad, 6620 Roanoke Rd. Shawsville, VA 24162.
