W. Rodney Brown, of Salem, VA, left this earth for his heavenly home on Monday, February 4, 2013. He was predeceased by his father, Jack Thomas Brown. Left to grieve and cherish his memory is his wife, Kimberly Brown; his sons, Jack (Chip) Brown II and wife, Meghan, of Asheville, NC, and Tyler Brown of Salem; mother, Nellie Overstreet and husband, Calvin; step-children, Nick Mithum of Salem and Ashley Mithum of Boca Raton, FL; and numerous relatives and friends with special mention to Jim and Linda Harrell, Tommy Matterly, Cory Moses, and Kim Gray. Rodney was an active member of the Central United Methodist Church where he served as a trustee, usher, and greeter, and worked with the TGIF program which influenced young people to Christ. He was an avid Virginia Tech, Eastern Montgomery High School, and Northside High School football fan, and enjoyed woodworking. The family will receive friends on Thursday, February 7, 2013 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home in Salem. A funeral service will be held on Friday, February 8, 2013 at 1 p.m. at the Central United Methodist Church in Salem. Interment will follow at Sherwood Memorial Park. The Rev. Kristin Holbrook will officiate. Friends are welcome to gather at the familys home immediately following. An online guestbook is available at www.johnmoakey.com.
