Virginia Sue Howell

Virginia Bishop Howell, 73, of Vinton, passed away Monday, May 9, 2016. She was preceded in death by her parents, Franklin and Euna Bishop; loving husband of 29 years, Robert J. Howell; two brothers; and two sisters. She was a longtime member of Grace Baptist Church. She was also a retired teller at Carter Bank and Trust. Family left to cherish her memory include her sons, Larry Brooks and wife Kathy of Roanoke, VA, and Bobby Brooks and wife Paula, of Middlesex, NC; two brothers, Billy Don Bishop and Beck Bishop; three sisters, Dorothy Horn, Dolly Hume, and Emma Lou Butler; six grandchildren, Christian Brooks, Heather Cauley, Christopher Brooks, Prescilla Brooks, Santana Brooks, and Chasity Scaggs; ten great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Special thanks go out to Richard and Vicki Shamblin for their love and support. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, May 11, 2016 from 6 until 8 p.m. at John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home in Salem. A funeral service will then be held on Thursday, May 12, 2016 at 1 p.m. in the funeral homes chapel with interment immediately following at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.
