Virgil L. Peverall, 81, of Salem, passed away on Monday, May 7, 2012. He was a proud veteran having served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. During his duty, he was a professional boxer in Special Services. He later trained young boxers in the Police Athletic League. Virgil was also a former employee of General Electric. Preceding him in death were his parents, Albert and Nora Peverall; brothers, Richard Peverall and Kenneth Peverall; and sisters, Margaret Mills and Norma Jean Shilling. His surviving family includes his wife of 55 years, Myrtle Peverall; daughters, Vickie Leigh and Patti Divers and husband, Steve; grandchildren, Nathan Divers, Eden Divers, Emma Divers, and Jasmine Viar; brothers, Albert Peverall and wife, Dale, Lawrence Peverall, Leonard Peverall, Cecil Peverall and wife, Betty, Carl Peverall and wife, Eleanor, and Raymond Peverall; sister, Juanita Leonard; and many nieces and nephews. A period of visitation will be held on Thursday, May 10, 2012 from 1 to 2:30 p.m. in the John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home. A procession will then take family members and friends to a graveside service at Sherwood Memorial Park beginning at 3 p.m. Mr. Don Pettit will officiate. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Virgils name to the Alzheimers Association at 1160 Pepsi Place Suite 306 in Charlottesville, VA 22901.
