Virgie Main Sweeney, 87, of Salem, VA, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, May 15, 2021. Born on Wednesday, December 6, 1933, to the late Celeste and Walter Main. She was a member of Hollins Church of the Nazarene. Virgie retired from the Graham-White Manufacturing Co. In addition to her parents she was greeted in heaven by her husband of 64 years, Dock Floyd Sweeney; son, Steven Sweeney; siblings, Walter Armon Main (Martha), Elmon L. Main (Marie), Alice Regent Rakes (Mason), Lloyd Jay Main (Martha), and James Madison Main. She is survived by her grandchildren, Heather Sweeney (Marlin), Ashley Sweeney (James), Daniel Sweeney, and Mitchell Sweeney; great grandchildren, Cerria, Tyler, Morgan, Austin, Colin, Mia, and Elena; brother, Harold Dean Main (Ellen); sister, Martha Main Fitzwater (Richard); and sister-in-law, Betty Graham Main; numerous nieces and nephews also survive. A funeral service to celebrate her life will be held at 2PM on Thursday, May 20, 2021, at the John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home in Salem, VA, with Pastor Lynn Riddle officiating. Burial will follow at Sherwood Memorial Park in Salem, VA. Friends may visit with the family from 1PM until the service hour. Those attending the service are asked to wear a face mask. The family asks that memorial contributions be made to Hollins Church of the Nazarene, 7039 Plantation Rd., Roanoke, VA 24019, in Virgies honor.
