Verrena Graham Bowers, 85, of Salem, passed away on Thursday, November 20, 2014. She was born in Floyd County on March 4, 1929 to the late Asa Clayton and Della Slusher Graham, and she graduated from Floyd County High School. She was a member of Salem Church of Christ. Above all, she will be remembered as a devoted wife and mother.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Glenville Bowers; four brothers and two sisters. Family left to cherish her memory include her son, Michael Bowers and wife Karen; daughter, Bonnie Bonner and husband Tim; sisters, Virginia Brown and Norma Hatcher and husband Jabe; grandchildren, Kalyn Comstock and husband Nick, Kimberly Council and husband John, Kristen Wendle and husband Jason; Christopher Bowers, Amanda Irvin, and Lucas Irvin; great grandson, Christopher Comstock; and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Monday, November 24, 2014 from 10 until 11 a.m. at the John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home Chapel in Salem. A funeral service to honor Verrenas life will then follow at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel with Pastors Mike Flinchum and Eric Evans officiating. Interment will follow at Sherwood Memorial Park in Salem. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Verrenas memory to Salem Church of Christ, 401 W. Main St. Salem, VA 24153.
