Ula Perdue Carter, 103, of Salem, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, April 30, 2013. Exactly one month shy of her 104th birthday, she loved working with flower arrangements and enjoyed being a fan of the New York Yankees. Preceding her in death were her parents, Walter and Maude Perdue; husband, James Carl Carter; brothers, Sandy Perdue and Carey Perdue; and sisters, Nell Foutz, Lossie Cook, Lucy Carter, and Sadie Garst. Her surviving family includes numerous nephews and nieces. A special thanks is extended to Salem Health and Rehabilitation for its many years of care and service to Ula. A period of visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 1, 2013 from 4 to 7 p.m. in the John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home in Salem. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 2, 2013 at 11 a.m. in the funeral homes chapel with the Rev. Daniel Gray officiating. Interment will follow at Sherwood Memorial Park.
