Timothy Lee "Tim" Reed, of Salem, Va., passed away in his home on Tuesday, December 2, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. He was 74 years old.
Tim was born to the late Malcom and Faye Reed on Tuesday, March 20, 1951. He graduated from Northside High School in 1969, before setting his sights on Virginia Tech's School of Engineering, from which he graduated in 1973. Tim went on to receive his master's degree in business from Anna Maria College. Tim retired from ITT in Roanoke and was even awarded the ITT "Ring of Quality" award for his immense dedication to his craft. Tim put his talents and knowledge to good use in his community as well. His family and friends would describe him as capable of doing anything, with talents ranging from woodworking and plumbing to just about any home maintenance those around him needed. Tim found joy and fulfillment in simply helping his family in any way he could. Tim was a Rotary Club member for many years and was dedicated to serving his community. He also loved motorcycles and motorcycle riding and was a worldwide traveler who visited many countries to further his love for adventure.
Family was Tim's first priority and his greatest joy. He was an exceptional father of two, raising his family with an abundance of love and kindness. Tim cherished his grandchildren especially, and they adored him right back, lovingly referring to him as "Pawpawman." His family, particularly his grandchildren, fondly remember when Tim would gently remind them that, "Calmness and quiet is the order of the day." Tim was the source of a multitude of treasured memories and stories that his family can look on with love.
Tim was an endlessly kind and generous man. One of his greatest passions was supporting charities and international agencies. Tim especially admired and faithfully supported St. Jude and Shriner's children's hospitals. Tim adored children, and in addition to his faithful giving, he served the ones in his community as a Sunday school teacher with compassion, patience, and dedication.
Tim is preceded in death by his parents, Malcom and Faye Reed; mother- and father-in-law, Henry and Elizabeth Terry; brother-in-law, Marshall Dowdy; sister-in-law, Karen Reed; niece, Joanna Reed; and a good friend, Karen Weikle.

Smith; siblings, Michael Reed (Frances), Stephen Reed (Deet), and Jonathan Reed; grandchildren, Katelynn Smith (Sey), Brianna Smith, Mackenzie Smith, and Malachi Reed; sister-in-law, Janet Terry Dowdy; nephews, Zachary Reed, Marty Dowdy (Ann), and Keith Ty Dowdy (Tracey); nieces, Rebecca Hansford, Catherine Reed, and Terry Dowdy; as well as a host of extended family and friends.
