Thomas Lynn Charles (Tommy), of Roanoke, passed away on Tuesday, February 2, 2016.
He was born on Thursday, May 11, 1972, in Richmond to Donna Elizabeth Charles. Tommy was a 1991 graduate of Lee Davis High School in Mechanicsville, and also attended Ohio Valley College.
He was a caring and loving son, beloved cousin (close enough to be a brother), good nephew, and helpful neighbor. Among his many hobbies included computer games which helped him in his job in electronics at Walmart. He loved nature and enjoyed spending time with his cat, Smokey.
Tommy was a soft-spoken and a very gentle soul who was willing to do anything for his mother, family, friends, and neighbors. He willingly and lovingly cared for and supported his mother most of his life. It takes a special man to devote his life to his mother.
He is survived by his mother, Donna Elizabeth Charles of Roanoke; uncles and aunts, Ken and Sherry Charles of Clarksburg, W.Va., Steve and Judy Charles of Waynesboro, and John and Peggy Simpson of Ocala, Fla.; and cousins, Jason Ridgeway of Ironton, Ohio, John Ridgeway of Front Royal, Richard (Hoss) Ridgeway of Fairmont, W.Va., Robert Ridgeway of Jeffersonville, Ind., Donald (Don) Charles of Roanoke, April Harrah of Roanoke, Tabitha (Tabby) Simmons of Christiansburg, Susy Charles of Sylva, N.C., Melissa Charles of Denver, Colo., and Amy Charles of Roanoke.
Tommys wish was to be cremated. A memorial service celebrating his life will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, February 6, 2016 in the John M. Oakey & Son Chapel in Salem. His ashes will be buried in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Roanoke Valley SPCA or The Humane Society of Virginia. Online condolences may be expressed at www.johnmoakey.com.
