Suzanne Gardner
Summerlin
Oct 30, 1938 — Aug 19, 2026
Saturday
St. Paul's Episcopal Church
Starts at 11:00 am (Eastern time)
Suzanne Warden Gardner Summerlin went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday, August 19th, 2026, significantly on the same date her only sibling, Betty Jo, passed nine years ago. They held a very special bond and are now reunited in Heaven.
Suzi married her high school sweetheart, Warren, and together they lovingly raised their sons, Mike and Scott in the Roanoke Valley. Her boys were her pride and joy, and she cherished every moment of watching them grow and build their own lives. She had a gift for making a house feel like home and loved decorating, cooking, shopping and most of all, creating special memories with the people she loved. Family and God were at the center of Suzi's life, and her greatest joy came from bringing those she loved together, surrounding them with warmth, faith, love, and a lifetime of treasured memories.
Suzi was a bright light that welcomed everyone. With her beautiful blue eyes and warm smile, she invited everyone into a conversation where she made you feel like you were the most important person in the room. Her excitement for life, all things Virginia Tech, and her family were unmatched. She was a member of the Roanoke Valley Hokie Club for many years, modeling her love and commitment to Virginia Tech as represented by the values of the Pylon Society of Virginia Tech.
She found a beautiful and lasting love in her second husband, Dan, with whom she celebrated 24 years of marriage. Together they created a family filled with love, laughter, and togetherness. She embraced her blended family wholeheartedly, making everyone feel welcomed, valued, and included. Her warm and generous spirit drew people together, and she cherished every opportunity to spend time with those she loved. Special occasions, holidays, and days at the beach became treasured memories shared by all, filled with laughter, conversation, and the simple joy of being together. Her love for her husband and her family was evident in the way she made room in her heart for everyone, leaving behind a legacy of love, acceptance, and cherished memories.
Suzi was predeceased by her parents, Albert and Dorothy Warden; her first husband, Warren Gardner; and her sister, Betty Jo Elliott.
Those left to cherish her beautiful memories are her husband, Daniel Summerlin; her children, Mike Gardner (Susan), Scott Gardner (Carol), Melinda Hancock (Jason), Daniel Summerlin (Laura), and Jeffrey Summerlin-Long (Shelley); grandchildren, Warren Gardner, Ashley Hawkins (Dylan), Regan McDaniel (Shawn), Tyler Hancock, Elliott Gardner, Lauren Pincus (James), Cabell Ann Whitlow, Taylor Summerlin, Carrington Gardner, Callie Summerlin, Tye Whitlow, Caroline Summerlin, Chenoah Summerlin-Long, Jonah Summerlin-Long, Marley Summerlin-Long, and Laine Whitlow; and great-granddaughter, Mary Pincus. In addition, she is survived by many beloved nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 29, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 42 East Main Street, Salem, Virginia 24153, followed by a luncheon at Hidden Valley Country Club. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul's Episcopal Church.
