Sue Ellen Stroud, 70, passed away peacefully on June 1, 2026. She was born on December 16, 1955, in Rock Hill, SC. In 1980, she began serving as a police officer for four years in Columbia, SC, before moving to Roanoke, VA, where she became a mother to her three children. She leaves behind countless memories with family and friends who were lucky enough to share in her smiles, laughter, and love over the years.

In addition to her son, Ian Stroud, Sue was preceded in death by her parents, Dorothy Ross, Cornelius (Red) Ross; brother, Billy (Bill) Blackwelder; sister, Linda Peek; and nephew, David Pender.

Sue is survived by her Son, Ben Stroud (Joey Sherinsky) of Salem, VA; daughter, Sara Stroud of Jackson, MO; brothers, Wesley Blackwelder (Theresa) of Chester, SC, Don Blackwelder (Charlene) of Griffin, GA; sisters, Ann Estes of Rock Hill, SC; Jane Curlee (Mickey) of Salisbury, NC; life partner, Anna Sparks, of Roanoke, VA; longtime friend, Judy Opincar of Roanoke, VA; and Granddog, Chowder; along with numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

A celebration of her life will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 6, 2026, at the John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home in Salem, Va. Friends may visit with the family from 1 p.m. until the hour of the service.
