Sue Ellen (Slayton) Cochran, or Susie as she was best known by all of her many friends and family, broke free from the fetters of this mortal life on Sunday, July 19, 2015 and is now a resident of Heaven for all eternity. Susie is at peace in the presence of her LORD and Savior, Jesus Christ and with her many friends and family that went on before her. What a celebration! She was 73. Susie was a sweet, kind, loving and gentle person and was loved by all who knew her. Her presence with us will be greatly missed!
Susie is preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Susan (Spires) Slayton; as well as brothers, Robert, Gary and Ronald Slayton; niece, Michelle Treadway; and nephew, Donald Slayton, all of Columbus, OH. She is survived by her husband of 33 years, William Randolph (Randy) Cochran, of Salem, VA; step-son, Jonathan (Dawn) Cochran; grandchildren, Jonathan and Marshall Cochran, of Lexington, SC; step-daughter, Bonnie (Layne) Thompson; grandchildren, Jackson Belbusti and Grace Thompson, of Charleston, SC; brother, Richard (Patty) Slayton, of Columbus, OH; and sisters, Carol Slayton Caldwell, of Xenia, OH, Jeraldine Slayton Wheeler, of Columbus, OH, and Shirley Slayton (George) McKnight, of Wilmington, NC.
Susie spent much of her working life in the insurance industry as a claims Specialist and also as an accomplished computer operator and trainer. She retired in 2000 prior to coming to Salem, VA with her husband. In her spare time, she loved helping other people, making flower arrangements and working on an occasional special event at the Roanoke Rescue Mission. She was an active member of First Baptist Church in Roanoke, VA.
A family celebration of Susies full rich life will be planned for the family sometime in the future. If anyone wishes to make a gesture of respect to Susies name, the family suggests donations to either The Alzheimers Foundation or Good Samaritan Hospice of Roanoke, VA.
