Stover Wilbur Carter, 85, of Salem, VA was called home on Thursday, February 2, 2023.
Born to George Edward Carter and Vencie Carter on Friday, July 2, 1937. In addition to his parents, Stover is preceded in death by his sister, Emily Carter Shelton.
Stover was a 50-year member of the Taylor Masonic Lodge in Salem, VA, Royal Arch Mason, and a Member of the Scottish Rite.
Those left to cherish his memory, wife, Rebecca Yates Carter; children, Susan Carter Garrison (John), Mark E. Carter (Susan), and Lee S. Carter (Melanie); grandchildren, Carter Noell, Peyton Carter, and Preston Carter.
The family would like to thank Good Samaritan Hospice for their excellent care. A special thanks to caregiver Tara Hodges for the special care given when it was needed the most.
The family will receive friends at the John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home on Sunday, February 5, 2023, from 6:00 p.m. 8:00 p.m., and again on Monday, February 6, 2023, at the funeral home. A graveside service will be conducted on Monday, February 6, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. at Sherwood Memorial Park in Salem.
