Steven Leon James Steven Leon James, 32, of Salem, Virginia, unexpectedly passed on July 29, 2019. Steven was born in Roanoke on March 2, 1987, and grew up in Florida, Tennessee, and Virginia. He graduated from Salem High School in 2005 and worked for many years with Varney, Inc., apprenticing to become an electrician. Diagnosed with juvenile diabetes at the age of 5, Steven spent much of his life giving back to those in need, be it volunteering for years at the Ronald McDonald House in Roanoke, taking in abandoned animals, or simply loving those who felt unloved. It is impossible to sum up a person in words, especially Steven. Those that knew Steven adored him for his goofy, warm, funny self. Others may recognize him from one of his hundreds of pizza deliveries in Roanoke. He had his fathers chocolate brown eyes and a bright smile that gave him triple smile lines as he aged. He loved pugs, sci-fi and horror movies (though he slept through every ending), Stephen King novels, nerdy card and board games, and tinkering with old Game Boys. His kindness was effortless, and his odd, hilarious stories will be sorely missed. Steven is survived by his wife, Stevie James; mother, Becca James; mother-in-law, Mia Hart; and grandmother, Mildred Scrivener. He is also survived by his brother and sister-in-law, David and Jessica Hooker; his sister and brother-in-law, Katie Hooker and Ahmed Issawy; and his brother-in-law, C.J. Hart, as well as his nieces and nephew, Whitney, Ally, Zeina, and Nathan. His lifelong friends, Andy Smith, Thomas and Brooke Summerlin, and Andy Pops Price will greatly miss him as his second family. Steven left us all better than he found us. A celebration of Stevens life will take place at Mill Mountain Park in Roanoke on Saturday, August 3, from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to or joining Stevens Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) team, Team McFly, at http://www2.jdrf.org/goto/teammcfly.
