Stephen Mayo Francis

Stephen Mayo Francis said his last farewells and closed the door on his life on Tuesday, February 28, 2023. He was born on August 6, 1923, to Agnes Francis and Henry Lewis Francis, Sr. in Salem, VA. Stephen graduated from Jefferson Senior High School and enlisted in the Army. He fought in the Pacific battles with the 1st Battalion 84th Infantry. Stephen had a long career with the USPS. He loved to sing and toured with the Choral Society. He was noted for his kindness and quick wit. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Pauline, and his brothers and sisters, Joe, Mary, Anna, and Henry. He is survived by his nephews and their families, and his many friends who will miss him. A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 4, 2023, at Evergreen Burial Park in Roanoke, VA.
