Early on Saturday, June 14, 2014, Stephen Gary Carlisle laid aside his earthly cares and reached out to take Christs hand. He was a loving husband, father, and a friend to so many in the Roanoke Valley. His skilled hands repaired and restored many fine stringed instruments throughout the country. He is survived by his beloved wife of 45 years, Norma Carlisle; and their loving son, Alex Carlisle. He also is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Larry Edwin and Helen Carlisle, and their family whom he loved. Many dear family members and friends will miss him greatly. Also mourning his loss is his dear little dog, Saki, who was his best pal. He was a communicant of The Church of St. Peter & St. Paul where his life will be celebrated by Father Thomas Reeves on Wednesday, June 18, 2014. A visitation for friends and family will begin at 10:00 a.m. and will be followed by a service of Holy Communion at 11:00 a.m. A Celebration of Life luncheon hosted by the church will follow the service. His family offers heartfelt appreciation to Good Samaritan Hospice, to include his nurses and a dear volunteer, Dr. Paul Richards and Dr. Daniel Bauer, and all the dear friends who offered up loving prayers for Steve during his courageous battle. In lieu of floral tributes, Steve requested that memorial donations be made to The Church of St. Peter & St. Paul at 4909 North Lake Drive in Roanoke, VA 24019. The Carlisle family is being served by John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home and Crematory in Salem, 540-389-5441.Visitation
