It is with profound sadness and a deep sense of love that we announce the passing of Stephanie Plaugher, who left this world peacefully at home on June 20, 2026.
Born on November 10, 1965, in Clarksburg, W.Va., Stephanie graced this earth with her radiant presence for 60 cherished years.
Stephanie was a devoted daughter to her late parents, Robert Maxwell and Betsy Baxter; and a loving sister to her late brother, Steve Maxwell.
Her family was her greatest pride and joy, and she is survived by her two beloved daughters, Ashley Hall and Melanie Simon. Stephanie's love extended to her sons-in-law, Zach Hall and Herb Simon; and to her precious granddaughters, Reese Simon and Cierra Rainone, who brought endless joy to her heart. Her sister, Yvette Holt, and her nephews, Steven, Jamie, Shawn, Jacob, and Bradley Maxwell, were also treasured members of her family.
For 35 years, Stephanie was a dedicated Service Manager at Kroger, where she was not only an exemplary employee but a beacon of warmth and kindness. Her customers often returned just to see her, drawn by her contagious smile and genuine care. Her colleagues and patrons alike remember her for the way she could transform an ordinary day into something brighter with just a few kind words and one of her legendary hugs. Outside of her professional life, Stephanie's world revolved around her family. She found immense joy in simply spending time with them, creating memories that will be cherished forever. She also had a fondness for shopping, a pastime she enjoyed as much for the experience as for the opportunity to find perfect gifts for her loved ones. Stephanie was a woman of remarkable qualities, with a heart as vast as her smile was warm. Her loving personality left an indelible mark on everyone she met, and her unwavering dedication to making others feel valued and loved was a testament to her character. Her hugs were famously the best, wrapping you in a cocoon of comfort and warmth.
A service to honor and celebrate the life of Stephanie Maxwell will be held at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, in the John M. Oakey & Son Chapel located at 305 Roanoke Boulevard in Salem, Va. A period of visitation will immediately follow the service until 8 p.m. Friends and family are invited to gather, share stories, and remember the remarkable woman who touched so many lives.
In this time of mourning, Stephanie's family extends their heartfelt gratitude for the outpouring of love and support. Though her absence leaves an irreplaceable void, her spirit and love will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew her. Stephanie's love will be greatly missed by many, but her legacy of kindness and joy will endure, reminding us all to strive to make others' days a little brighter, just as she always did.
