Sonja Anna Waldron, 86, of Salem, passed away peacefully at home, on Friday, November 12, 2021. Born September 22, 1935, in Triebshitz, Sudetenland to the late Karl and Angela Kraus, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Gene Albert Waldron, Sr., and son, Robert Karl Waldron.
Sonja fell in love with a handsome, young G.I. stationed in Germany and the newly married couple made their home in the United States where she proudly gave her oath of citizenship in 1965. Sonja retired from ITT Night Vision and having more spare time meant more time for things she enjoyed such as sewing and gardening. Above all, Sonja adored her family and her special canine companion, Molly.
Those left to cherish her memory include her son, Gene Albert Waldron and his wife, Vickie; grandchildren, Jessica (Robert) Ratcliffe, Levi Waldron, Chelsea (Kevin) Phillips, and Jonathan Waldron; great-grandchildren, Emma and Claire Ratcliffe and Lilly, Blake, Khloe, and Holly Phillips, as well as her beloved dog, Molly.
The family will welcome friends on Tuesday, November 16, 2021, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.in the chapel of John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 p.m., in the funeral home chapel with interment immediately following at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.
