Sidney Lee Shelton, 73, of Salem, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 24, 2013. Sid is best known as owner of C & S Auto Parts and Motor Parts of Salem, where he delivered his parts and his wry wit to all who called or stopped by. With his humility and gentleness, coupled with his sharp sense of humor, he made lasting and positive impressions on all who met him. He was known for being good to his customers and going above and beyond to help those in need. He will be missed by all of us who loved him.
Sid was a proud member of Taylor Lodge #23, AF&AM, Salem, VA, and Kazim Shrine Temple, Roanoke, VA. He also served as District 9 Director of the Virginia Automotive Wholesalers Association (VAWA). Sid loved the outdoors, especially camping and boating at Philpott Lake and Myrtle Beach, SC. He enjoyed a good round of golf, and always the prankster, took great joy in joking with those he loved. He particularly enjoyed his role as Papaw to his 5 grandchildren, often taking them all out for breakfast.
Sidney was born December 31, 1939, in Roanoke, VA, the last child born in Roanoke in 1939. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry Lee Shelton and Violet Louise Smith Shelton. He is survived by his wife, his Angel, Charlotte Johns Shelton; two sons, Jeffrey M. Shelton and wife Kathy of Salem and Christopher W. Shelton and wife Jill, also of Salem; a sister, Helen A. Meador and husband Oscar of Montvale; two brothers, Robert P. Shelton of Roanoke, and James E. Shelton and wife Mary of Dillon, SC. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Emily, Jordan, Chloe, Abby, and Daniel Lee.
